NAVAIR Looks to Increase P-8 Poseidon Production

The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) issued a $27.5 million contract to Boeing for low rate initial production (LRIP) of P-8A Poseidon aircraft, a multi mission aircraft based on the Boeing 737-800 airframe.

NAVAIR did not disclose how many P-8As will be produced as a result of the new contract.
Boeing is currently on contract to build 24 P-8A aircraft as part of three LRIP contracts awarded in 2011 and 2012. NAVAIR has plans to purchase 117 P-8As, the company said.
In a statement, the Department of Defense (DoD) said the latest LRIP is scheduled for completion in June 2016.
