NOAA conducted five flights with the Puma, as the agency looked to test the unmanned aircraft's ability to monitor "national marine sanctuaries." Missions in the future using the Puma will involve locating and tracking targets, and collecting data from dangerous or remote areas such as oceans.

The flights were conducted on NOAA's ship Nancy Foster. The agency did not respond to inquiries as to when it expects to start conducting live missions with the Puma.
