USCG Employs Lynx Helicopter to Catch Cocaine Carriers

By Andrew Driwega, International Bureau Chief
U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) officials working from a Royal Navy (RN) warship, HMS Argyll, have uncovered a haul of cocaine valued at more than $16 million that was hidden onboard a private yacht transiting through the Caribbean.
The Type 23 frigate’s Lynx helicopter made the initial identification of the suspect yacht and the warship made the interception. During a search of the vessel the USCG Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET) discovered 10 bales of cocaine, and two crew members were arrested.

The same helicopter ship combination was responsible for an even bigger haul of cocaine in August, when nearly $34 million worth of cocaine was discovered on a vessel following a 12-hour chase.
