Lagos Crash Bristow's First Since Early 2014

The fatal Aug. 12 S-76C+ crash in Nigeria was Bristow Group's first air accident in its previous two fiscal years. (The company's fiscal year starts April 1.) The Sikorsky twin crashed at around 3:30 p.m. local time on approach to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lago. Its crew of two was transporting 10 passengers from an offshore rig about 100 mi southeast of Lago. Bristow confirmed the crash killed the pilots, Capt. Joseph "Jay" Wyatt of Oklahoma and First Officer Peter Bello of Nigeria. Five days before the crash, Bristow President/CEO Jonathan Baliff told financial analysts Aug. 7, in Bristow's first-quarter earnings call, that the company is "continuing to focus intensively on integrating our Target Zero safety culture across all of our business units." Launched in the mid-2000s, Target Zero set a safety target of "zero accidents, zero harm to people and zero harm to the environment" for the company and its employees worldwide.
