As the Canadian general election approaches in October, the government is touting its commitment to improving search-and-rescue efforts, including its contribution to a global Earth-monitoring satellite system. The Medium Earth Orbit Search-and-Rescue (Meosar) project is an upgrade to a global search-and-rescue satellite system known as Cospas-Sarsat, which operates along with systems in low Earth and geostationary orbits. It includes U.S., Russian and European navigation satellites.
