Italian ICH-47F Chinook Completes First Flight

The Italian Army has conducted the maiden flight of the latest AgustaWestland variant of Boeing's heavy lift helicopter, the ICH-47F.

The flight lasted 15 minutes at the Vergiate base in Italy, with the pilot carrying out basic handling tests and main system checks. Italy's military procurement agency has 16 ICH-47F Chinooks on order, with deliveries scheduled through 2017. 

Under an agreement with Chinook manufacturer Boeing, AgustaWestland is the prime contractor for the ICH-47F. Italy will use the new helicopters to replace its aging fleet of CH-47C Chinooks.
