Putin is in trouble as the war finally comes to Moscow

The Kremlin has managed to largely protect the capital over more than four years of war, until now

Vladimir Putin is facing mounting pressure over Ukraine’s escalating attacks on Moscow, which he has been able to largely insulate from the war until now.

Residents of the city describe widespread alarm and criticism of authorities after a series of damaging strikes over recent weeks that the regime has appeared helpless to prevent. Even loyalist media are joining a rising chorus of dissent. The rising threat could force the Russian President to consider exit strategies from the war, analysts believe.

The strikes are a blow to the Kremlin, which has sought to protect Moscow from more than four years of war. Army recruitment and casualties have disproportionately fallen on provinces, prisons and foreign fighters to spare the capital.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to press European allies on defense spending and a potential role in securing the Strait of Hormuz when he and other top diplomats arrive in Sweden on Thursday for two days of high-level talks.

The NATO foreign ministers meeting comes at a time of upheaval inside the alliance, as several senior U.S. officials, including Rubio, increasingly question the value of a partnership that has for decades served as the cornerstone of trans-Atlantic security.

de Havilland Vampire – the Wrong Little 500mph Jet Fighter

By The Editor on May 22, 2026 06:00 am

By the time the de Havilland Vampire finally took to the skies in 1945, Nazi Germany was collapsing, and the jet would never fire a shot in the conflict it was designed for. But what came next changed everything. Unlike earlier jet experiments, the Vampire proved that a single-engine jet fighter could actually work in […]

A NATO force model that could see fewer U.S. troops brought to Europe during a crisis is under review, the alliance’s top official confirmed Wednesday.

Speaking at a news conference in Brussels, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte was asked about a reported upcoming U.S. announcement outlining plans for a smaller contribution to the alliance’s force-generating system.
