Report: N. Korea forced down U.S. military plane in March
Published: September 9, 2011
A U.S. military reconnaissance plane came under electronic attack from North Korea and had to make an emergency landing during a major military exercise in March, a South Korean political aide said Friday.
Agence France-Presse reported that Seoul's defense ministry said the plane suffered disturbance to its GPS system due to jamming signals from the North as it was taking part in the annual U.S.-South Korea drill Key Resolve.
Spokesmen for the defense ministry and U.S. Forces Korea declined to comment, according to AFP.
The report said the jamming signals forced the plane to land 45 minutes into its flight; affected South Korean naval patrol boats and civilian flights; interfered with mobile phones in Seoul; and caused military GPS devices to malfunction.
