Norwegians første Dreamliner trolig forsinket
Boeing har varslet en mulig forsinkelse på Norwegians første Dreamliner, opplyser Norwegian
Norwegians første 787 Dreamliner skulle etter planen leveres i slutten av april. Også den neste leveransen i juni kan bli berørt, opplyser selskapet.
Det betyr Norwegian må skaffe erstatningsfly til rutene mellom New York og Bangkok når flygingene starter opp i månedsskiftet mai/juni.
Boeing har ikke gitt noen ny leveransedato eller skriftlig bekreftelse på en eventuell forsinkelse.
For å være på den sikre siden vil Norwegian likevel inngå avtale om innleie av langdistansefly for en periode på inntil tre måneder. Passasjerer som har bestilt billetter, vil få mer detaljert informasjon om flygingene så snart dette er avklart.
– Jeg har stor forståelse for at kundene våre som har sett fram til å fly Dreamlineren de første ukene er skuffet over denne nye beskjeden. En eventuell forsinkelse er utenfor vår kontroll, og overfor alle våre passasjerer må vi sterkt beklage at Dreamlineren kanskje ikke er klar til oppstart. Vi skal imidlertid fly våre passasjerer direkte til og fra New York og Bangkok til tross for dette, og ellers gjøre det vi kan for at de skal få en god reise. Vi vil også gi kundene mulighet til å flytte reisen sin kostnadsfritt fram i tid, sier administrerende direktør Bjørn Kjos.
– Som en av Boeings største kunder i Europa forventer vi at flyprodusenten gjør alt som står i deres makt for å få flyene klare til leveranse så raskt som mulig, sier Kjos.
– Boeing beklager på det sterkeste situasjonen våre Dreamliner-kunder har kommet i, heter det i en uttalelse fra Boeing.

Norwegian Air Prepares for Delayed Boeing 787 Delivery
Norwegian Air is preparing for a possible delay to the scheduled April delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner due to the ongoing investigation by U.S. and Japanese safety officials of the aircraft's lithium ion battery, the carrier said Friday.
The airline said if the 787 is not operational in time for its planned routes to New York and Bangkok in May, Norwegian will sign a leasing agreement to replace the 787 on long-haul routes. Norwegian has a total of eight Dreamliners on order.
“As one of Boeing's biggest customers in Europe, we expect that the aircraft manufacturer does everything in its power to get the aircraft ready for delivery as soon as possible,” said Norwegian Air CEO Bjorn Kjos.
All 50 in-service Dreamliners worldwide have remained grounded since Jan. 16 after a series of battery incidents and in-flight problems lead to FAA issuing an airworthiness directive for carriers to stop operating the planes.
The Norwegian announcement comes a day after the National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) media briefing about the ongoing investigation into recent issues with the 787. NTSB identified the origin of the Japanese Airlines (JAL) 787 battery fire as a short circuit from one of the eight cells in the battery that lead to a thermal runway that cascaded to the other cells.
“We deeply regret the impact the recent events have had on the schedule of Norwegian and their customers. We are staying in close communication with the airline as we work towards an approved means of compliance with the FAA Airworthiness Directive and develop a plan for resumption of 787 deliveries,” Boeing said in a statement.

Oslo-based Norwegian Air said in a statement that Boeing has not given it new handover dates or provided written confirmation of the holdups.
"Although a potential delay is completely out of our control, we would like to apologize in advance if the Dreamliner isn't ready for Norwegian's first long-haul flights," Chief Executive Officer Bjorn Kjos said in a statement.
As one of Boeing's biggest European customers, Norwegian said it expects the manufacturer to do "everything in its power" to get the 787 ready for delivery as soon as possible. To allow for new services to New York and Bangkok, the carrier said it will obtain alternative aircraft through a leasing company for as long as three months.
