HOP! The new airline in the Air France group takes off
HOP! Air France is launching its new HOP! regional airline. Born from the synergy between three French regional airlines of the Air France group - Brit Air, Regional and Airlinair, the idea behind HOP! is to become the reference airline on inter-regional routes in France and Europe, with a competitive offer, for business or leisure travel.
As a result, from 31 March 2013, HOP! will be operating 530 flights a day to 136 destinations in France and Europe! Being part of the Air France group is a guarantee for customers in terms of both service quality and safety, which is the airline’s absolute priority
AF-KLM's move to some degree follows the lead of German rival Deutsche Lufthansa (LHA.XE), which is transferring its direct services within Europe to Germanwings, a lower-cost subsidiary, as profitable operations on short-haul routes are elusive for a cumbersome legacy carrier.
HOP! will operate a mixed fleet of fuel-efficient 98 aircraft with 48-100 seats made by Embraer, Bombardier and ATR, while Germanwings's fleet is mainly larger-capacity Airbus jets.
Both HOP! and Germanwings will provide feeder services for their parent airlines' long-haul flights into Paris and Frankfurt, and profitability on the short hop legs is less of an issue if the overall journey offers decent margins.
