EU relaxes air safety rules to allow use of electronics during take-off
and landing
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has
announced today (13 November) that it will publish new guidelines stating that
air travel passengers should be allowed to use electronic devices at all stages
of a flight.
Devices including tablets, smartphones, ebook readers and
MP3 players have been declared safe to use during take-off and landing,
providing they remain in "Flight Mode". Bulkier electronic equipment such as
laptops will still need to be stowed during takeoff, landing and taxi, a press
release states. At the time of writing no airlines had come forward saying they
would be adopting the new safety rules imminently
