NetJets Unions Stage “Informational” Demonstrations
Approximately 300 pilots and other employees of NetJets took to the picket lines yesterday in a three-pronged “informational” protest outside the Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary’s Columbus, Ohio headquarters and at its bases at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and California’s John Wayne Orange County Airport. The NetJets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots (NJASAP) has been deadlocked in contract negotiations with the fractional aircraft provider for more than a year-and-a-half, while the process with the company’s flight attendants union has dragged on for the last four years. “It’s all about greed,” said Capt. Coley George, vice president of industry affairs with NJASAP, citing NetJets’ recent earnings statements. “These revenue numbers are extraordinary and the idea that they want their employees to give back and give concessions on a contract is just not something that we are interested in.” Coley added further demonstrations are planned for the future. “The picket staged by the leadership of [NJASAP] and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters is intended to generate leverage in ongoing collective bargaining and is a common tactic from the traditional union playbook,” a NetJets spokeswoman told AIN. “Real progress toward new collective bargaining agreements can be made only through good faith negotiations and, as such, we encourage the unions to stop the theatrics and get serious at the bargaining table.”
