Liberalization Boosts Airbus Helicopters
During the July visit to China of Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, three Chinese general aviation companies ordered 123 helicopters from Airbus Helicopters, a deal that the helicopter-maker values at $600 million at list price.
The deal is one of the biggest since China announced that it plans to open up low-altitude airspace to general aviation. Airspace in China is largely controlled by the military.
Bell Helicopter Inks Deal
for 50 Jet Ranger Xs in China
Bell Helicopter inked a letter of
intent with its independent Chinese representative Reignwood Investment for 50
Bell 505 Jet Ranger X 
helicopters yesterday at Airshow China 2014 in
Zhuhai, just one day after the new model achieved its first flight. This lastest order
increases Reignwood’s commitment to 60 of the new Bell light singles. Reignwood
plans to use the aircraft for travel and tourism purposes. “This agreement
demonstrates the interest and excitement Bell Helicopter is generating in China
and strengthens the relationship between Bell and Reignwood,” said Bell
president and CEO John Garrison. “The Bell 505 was designed based on extensive
input provided by a customer advisory council, placing safety, performance and
affordability at the forefront. It is built upon the features and capabilities
of the legendary Bell JetRanger with a new design and advanced technologies.”
“Bell Helicopter and Reignwood enjoy a solid and growing relationship in China,”
said Bell Helicopter vice president for China Chris Jaran. “Their knowledge of
the culture and the customer base has been a tremendous resource for us.”
Reignwood’s existing fleet of Bell 206, 407GX and 429 helicopters is flying in
various roles across China, including EMS, corporate transport and pilot
training, according to Jaran.
