MV-22s Stretched Legs in Hop to Brazil

Crews from the U.S. Marine Corps Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 764 stretched the MV-22’s legs on a recent deployment to an exercise in Brazil. They flew four of the Bell-Boeing Ospreys more than 5,370 nm, with support from four Marine Lockheed Martin KC-130 tankers, from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California, to Rio de Janeiro. The mid-November flights marked the longest for the tiltrotor in the Western Hemisphere, according to the Marines. In Brazil, the Ospreys and tankers participated in UNITAS Amphibious 2015, a combined field training exercise in Guanabara Bay near Rio and along the nearby Atlantic coast. That exercise involved about 1,000 personnel from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and the U.S. The exercise was intended to enhance interoperability in amphibious operations and humanitarian assistance/disaster relief missions.
