Icelandic budget
carrier Wow Air is taking four Airbus A330-900s in a substantial expansion of
its fleet.
The airline will increase its
fleet by seven jets to a total of 24.
It says it will lease the
A330neos from CIT Aerospace for 12-year periods. The Rolls-Royce Trent
7000-powered aircraft will be configured with 365 seats in a single-class
cabin, although 42 seats will be wider and offer additional legroom.
Although the airline has not
detailed specific plans for the aircraft, it notes that they could potentially
reach cities including Hong Kong and Honolulu from Reykjavik.
Wow Air is also set to acquire
two Airbus A321s as part of the expansion programme, one directly from Airbus
and the other leased from Air Lease Corporation.
The airline is being coy over
the identity of the seventh aircraft, however. It states only that it will
release details in a few weeks’ time.
Wow Air has six aircraft on
order including re-engined A321neo and A320neo jets, fitted with CFM Leap-1As.
Airbus has yet to disclose details of the first customer to receive the
A321neo.
The airline currently operates a
mix of A330-300s, A321s and A320s. Its A320-family jets are fitted with CFM
International CFM56 engines.
Wow Air, which says it will operate 17 aircraft
this summer, will take delivery of the seven additional jets over an 18-month
period from mid-2017.
