CHC Inks Deal with Milestone for Super-medium Helos |
CHC Helicopter launched its super-medium helicopter program yesterday with a commitment to lease five new aircraft from GECAS’s Milestone Aviation Group. Under the deal, CHC will add three new Leonardo AW189s and two Airbus Helicopters H175s from Milestone’s order book. The new helicopters will be configured for energy transport missions and will serve CHC customers in the North Sea and Australia.
“We are working closely with Milestone to carefully build a productive, safe and reliable fleet to meet the varying needs of our customers throughout the world,” said CHC Helicopter president and CEO Karl Fessenden. “Since completing our restructuring in March, our fleet productivity has significantly improved and matches our historical peak levels before the oil-and-gas downturn.”
Both the Leonardo AW189 and the Airbus H175 are designed to meet long-range, high-endurance requirements, which CHC said will allow it to use the helicopters for missions that have either been traditionally limited to heavy aircraft or access platforms that are not designed to support the heavier types.

CHC Ready to Receive First H175 for North Sea Operations
By S.L. Fuller | August 2, 2017
CHC Helicopter is set to take delivery of its first Airbus Helicopters H175, Airbus said. The aircraft is configured to carry 16 passengers for offshore oil and gas operations and will operate from CHC’s base at Aberdeen, Scotland. “The H175 allows us to continue to refine our global fleet to meet the unique needs of our customers while offering the latest aircraft technology and capabilities,” said Dave Balevic, SVP of engineering and operations at CHC. Airbus and CHC also have an HCare services contract for the H175. This covers all spare parts and repairable items, which would be supplied from the manufacturer’s North Sea Fleet Centre in Aberdeen. CHC is set to begin training and adjustment ahead of operational launch in August, Airbus said. The global fleet of 15 H175s has accumulated more than 12,000 flight hours. Of the 15, 12 are flying oil and gas missions in the North Sea, and one is flying in the Gulf of Mexico. The H175 can also fly utility, VIP transport, and search and rescue missions. |
