A forecast released this week anticipates the market for electrified aircraft
systems will climb by approximately 50 percent by 2025.
The report from Global Market Insights analyzed the "more electric
aircraft" market and predicted that the segment's value would rise from
$30 billion last year to some $45 billion by the end of the forecast window.
GMI analysts cited an overall increase in aircraft production to meet carrier
and passenger demand, as well as increased emphasis from aircraft manufacturers
on electric components research and development.
The more fuel-efficient aircraft, the report noted, offered lower weight and reduce
noise levels, along with the ability to use fewer engine components and highly
reliable power electronics.
"Growing adoption of greener air carriers will propel the more electric
aircraft market growth," analysts wrote. "The carriers offer reduced
maintenance cost and improved reliability with elimination of
maintenance-intensive components such as bleed system."
The forecast expected to see increased demand, in particular, for more
fuel-efficient widebody jetliners, such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380.
