Swiss TSB issues Status Report on the 4 August 2018 crash of a Junkers Ju-52/3m that killed 20

The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (STSB) published a Status Report on their investigation into the 4 August 2018 crash of a Junkers Ju-52/3m that killed 20.
The Board reports that much work has been undertaken to determine the flight path of the aircraft leading up to the accident. The valley south-west the accident location (Piz Segnas) was captured using a three-dimensional laser scan and a 3D model was created using another Ju-52.  This allows images of the accident aircraft taken from the ground during the flight to be positioned and analysed with regard to the terrain. This model can also be used to evaluate images from inside the aircraft to determine the flight path.
A total of over 40 mobile phones, digital cameras, memory cards and other components with possible data storage were secured and are being processed to help establish the aircraft’s flight path.
Additionally, radar data of 218 flights of Ju-52 aeroplanes operated by Ju-Air, which took place between April and August 2018, have been secured. These will be used to reconstruct the flight paths and analyse them with regard to flying tactics.
The Board expects the final report on this accident to be released in the first quarter of 2020.
