L-3 Aviation Products is extending its expertise in ADS-B avionics to the general aviation industry with a panel-mounted single-box solution called the Lynx MultiLink Surveillance System (MSS). “Our goal is to eliminate the guesswork and complexity inherent in ADS-B systems and introduce a one-box solution that meets the FAA ADS-B mandate, while going beyond what any other company is currently doing for NextGen flight,” said Larry Riddle, L-3 Aviation Products vice president of marketing and sales. The FAA ADS-B OUT mandate takes effect on Jan. 1, 2020.
Installation of the Lynx will be easier, not just because it is a one-box solution, but also because an ADS-B rule-compliant GPS position source is included. The Lynx will also use existing antennas and wiring, further simplifying the installation.
Although L-3’s announcement of the new Lynx MSS is about the upcoming launch of the system, AirVenture 2014 attendees can learn more at the L-3 exhibit (Hangar C, Booth 3109). Visitors can also sign up to receive notifications and introductory pricing once the Lynx is launched.
The panel-mounted Lynx NGT-9000 MSS will be available, along with other ADS-B products in the Lynx lineup, later this year. The company is currently conducting final testing of the Lynx system. A formal unveiling should take place in the next few months, according to L-3, which recently received certification for its NXT-series ADS-B OUTtransponders for the air transport and business aviation markets.
“L-3 leveraged our long history of creating reliable, high-performance ADS-B and NextGen products to develop a game-changing product that has been specifically tailored to fit the panel and budget of today’s general aviation aircraft and pilots,” Riddle said.
L-3 is planning to release an iPad and Android app that potential customers will be able to use to “test drive” Lynx.
