The pilot of the Hawker Hunter that crashed at a U.K. airshow in late August, killing 11 people, has been released from the hospital and will shortly be interviewed by crash investigators. Andy Hill, 51, a former RAF pilot and a current British Airways captain, was put in an induced coma after the crash and was said at the time to be clinging to life. “The pilot’s condition is improving," Sussex Police said in a statement. "Police and i nvestigators from the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB), who are conducting parallel investigations, are looking to interview the pilot as soon as possible.” Meanwhile, the AAIB has been doing other elements of the investigation and appears to have ruled out any mechanical or control issues. There were two onboard cameras running and investigators were able to recover their data. "To date no abnormal indications have been identified," the AAIB said in a statement released in early September. "Throughout the flight, the aircraft appeared to be responding to the pilot’s control inputs." The nature of Hill's injuries and the state of his recovery have not been discussed in detail. |
