Kvinner i luftfart - UK`s scheme

Women in Aviation & Aerospace Mentoring Scheme and Survey

 By Conference and Event Department
Women continue to be under-represented in the aviation and aerospace industry in the UK. How this may be addressed was a focus of the recent RAeS annual Women in Aviation and Aerospace Committee (WAAC) conference, where the official launch of the WAAC’s new mentoring scheme took place. The scheme is the first of its kind in the industry and aims to improve the recruitment and retention of women in the aerospace sector by meeting the needs of female professionals.
The mentoring scheme is built upon four key objectives:
•  To create an integrated sector based approach to the issue of the recruitment, retention, development and progression of women in aviation and aerospace.
•  Design, build and review a mentoring scheme, specifically based upon the identified needs of female professionals (through a survey and face-to-face interviews with female professionals in the industry) and ‘best practice’.
•  Design and deliver a training scheme for potential mentors and mentees and build mentoring into yearly performance reviews for mentors and mentees.
•  Sustain the mentoring scheme through the partnership built up through the knowledge exchange programme.
