Restored CAC Boomerang eyes first flight in 78 years

Three ongoing Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation CA-12 Boomerang WWII-era monoplane restorations have seen major progress in recent months, thanks to Greg Batts and his aptly titled project Combat Aircraft Constructions (CAC).

Working out of a hangar near Archerfield Airport in Brisbane, CAC is hard at work to bring three Boomerangs, A46-77, A46-55 and A46-54 back to their former glory. Perhaps the most advanced restoration is that of A46-54, a home-grown Boomerang built in Australia and delivered to the RAAF in March 1943. Given the registration MH-B, the aircraft was operated by 83 Squadron out of the Northern Territory. Now, the project nears the major milestone of taking flight for the first time since 1945.
