Thousands of people have started to return to Gaza City from southern Gaza, weeks after fleeing the Israeli offensive that turned much of the city into rubble. Some have walked over 20km (12 miles) carrying their belongings on their backs. Alaa Saleh, a schoolteacher who had fled Gaza City with his wife and six children to Khan Younis, said: "The road is long and difficult, there's no food or water". Videos circulating online show vast areas of destruction in the city's main neighbourhoods. |
