Sikorsky re-lanserer S-92A+ på HeliExpo i går
The S-92A is an upgrade package proposed for existing Sikorsky S‑92 helicopters. The concept was first announced at Heli-Expo 2019 alongside the development of the S-92B, which incorporates several technical improvements including the General Electric CT7-8A6 engines, a Phase IV main gearbox, and elements of Sikorsky’s MATRIX autonomy technology, such as autonomous landing capabilities including Rig Approach 2.0 designed for offshore oil and gas operations.
The S-92A program was intended to allow operators to upgrade existing S-92A aircraft to incorporate selected improvements derived from the S-92B development.
In 2020, VIH Aviation Group was announced as the launch customer for the S-92A upgrade kit. However, as of 2025, no in-service S-92A has been fully converted to the S-92A configuration, largely because the Phase IV main gearbox, a key component of the upgrade, remains in the final stages of certification.
In 2026, an undisclosed country ordered two aircraft for head-of-state transport that will be assembled by Sikorsky Aircraft in the S-92A configuration. In addition, three further S-92A aircraft are planned for manufacture and final assembly at Sikorsky facilities in Stratford, Connecticut and Owego, New York.
