Pentagon Criticizes Sikorsky Acquisition
Lockheed Martin's $9 billion acquisition of Sikorsky Aircraft has come under criticism by Pentagon officials who say the consolidation would reduce diversity and competition among U.S. defense contractors. "One can foresee a future in which the department has at most two or three very large suppliers for all the major weapons systems that we acquire," said Frank Kendall, the Pentagon's procurement chief, who implied thatLockheed Martin might use the consolidation to gain a corporate advantage. The acquisition had been green-lit in the U.S., Japan and South Korea, and is currently awaiting additional approval from abroad as of last week.
