The court blocked a lower court order as the case works through the legal process, saying sex at birth is a historical fact.

| Hello from London, where we’ve been following a rare moment of hope for America’s battered Democrats. Their candidates triumphed in elections this week. Most dramatic was Zohran Mamdani, who shot out of obscurity to win the New York City mayoral race on Tuesday with the biggest voter turnout in decades. But Democrats also scored important victories in California, New Jersey, Virginia and Pennsylvania. The results are certainly a rebuke to President Donald Trump. But let’s be careful not to assume that they are a forecast for next year’s nationwide elections. That is particularly true of Mamdani, whose win showcases the widening — and potentially dangerous — rift between America’s big cities and hinterland. As ever, the real test will be whether the newly elected can deliver on their promises. |
