A Scandinavian Airlines jet narrowly avoided disaster at Brussels Airport after beginning its takeoff roll on a taxiway instead of the assigned runway. Flight SK2590 to Copenhagen accelerated to over 100 knots before the crew aborted the takeoff and brought the aircraft to a stop, partly off the paved surface.
No injuries were reported, and passengers were safely evacuated and rebooked. Belgian authorities are investigating how the aircraft lined up incorrectly despite having departure clearance. SAS says it is cooperating fully as the incident raises fresh questions about night operations and cockpit cross checks.
