The two ballistic missile submarines Tula (left) and Yuri Dolgorukiy docked at a pier in Gadzhiyevo on Russia's Barents Sea coast north of Murmansk. The submarines can carry up to 16 ballistic missiles each.

Fears grow that Russia will deploy more nukes in the Arctic as New START Treaty expires

More uncertainty can push Russia to a higher alert, deploying more tactical and strategic nuclear warheads on board submarines sailing out from the Kola Peninsula.
