The United States
and Iran continue to battle over control of the Strait of Hormuz, escalating
hostilities across the region while both claim control of the vital waterway.
The U.S. on Sunday
night issued its latest salvo in what has turned into a multi-day exchange of
hostilities, putting global leaders on edge and threatening a resumption of
full-scale conflict in the Middle East.
U.S. Central
Command said Monday that it had completed another round of strikes against
Iran, seeking to destroy its ability to target ships moving through the strait,
which serves as a major shipping lane for one-fifth of the world’s oil supply.
“The Strait of
Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade. Iran does not control
it,” CENTCOM said in a statement.
