Video: KC-10 Crew Supporting USAF F-35As First Transatlantic Crossing
On June 30, 2016, Aviation Week joined the crew of a KC-10 Extender from Travis AFB, departing out of McGuire AFB, New Jersey, as it escorted three Lockheed Martin F-35Asacross the Atlantic to RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom. The journey marked the first time a U.S. Air Force-owned F-35A crossed the Atlantic Ocean and the first time an A-model touched down in England. The three aircraft joined three F-35Bs, two U.S. and one British, that arrived at Fairford one day prior. The F-35A pilots are heritage team leads Maj. Will Andreotta (tail number 5042), Maj. Dan Daehler (5058) and Air Force Reserve pilot Capt. Luke Outwater (5052).
