CHC Brazil has opened its new hangar at Benedito Lacerda Airport in Macaé, CHC said. The facility is 13,670 square feet, housing up to three aircraft. It supports the Sikorsky S-76, S-92 and Leonardo AW139 for regional customers. The whole facility was constructed in six months.
“The last three years have been challenging for CHC and all oil and gas based companies,” said Marcelo Luiz Da Silva Soares, regional director for Latin America. “However, we decided to move forward and continue investing, to be ready when the market trends back up. This brand new facility will provide a larger, modern space while helping us create a safer environment, streamline our operation and reduce costs.”
CHC has also leased two new Sikorsky S-92s for search and rescue support for a Statoil contract in Norway, CHC said. The aircraft are to be ready for operation come September and October this year. Milestone Aviation Group is serving as the lead lessor.
The two new-generation helicopters feature vibration control, composite blades and other safety features. Statoil has currently contracted CHC search and rescue services across its Norwegian sector platforms through 2020, with optional extensions through 2024.
