Incident: United B739 at Chicago on Jan 19th 2019, overran runway
on landing
A United Boeing 737-900, registration N69816 performing flight UA-656
from Phoenix,AZ to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) with 129 people on board, landed on
Chicago's runway 04R at 11:27L (17:27Z) but overran the end of the runway and
came to a stop with at least the nose gear off the paved surface. The passengers
disembarked via mobile stairs and were bussed to the terminal. There were no
injuries, the aircraft sustained minor if any damage.
Incident: Southwest B738 at Omaha on Jan 18th 2019, overran runway
on landing
A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N8687A performing
flight WN-1643 from Las Vegas,NV to Omaha,NE (USA) with 150 passengers and 6
crew, landed on Omaha's runway 14R at 14:03L (20:03Z) but overran the end of the
runway and veered right off the paved surface coming to a stop about 50
meters/160 feet past the end and about 9 meters/30 feet to the right of the
extended right edge of the runway. Tower alerted emergency services and
redirected aircraft taxiing for departure to runway 14L instead of 14R telling
Southwest had just overrun runway 14R but subsequently announced the entire
airport was shut down after airport operations had reported the braking action
on runway 14L was not good. There were no injuries, the aircraft received minor
if any damage. The passengers disembarked via mobile stairs and were bussed to
the terminal.
