Long expected to be an ASW version of Z-9D called Z-9F has now been spotted in service allegedly as the Z-9DF. carrying a 2-digit serial number and a new dipping sonar.

In contrast to the regular Z-9D it is equipped with a crash position indicator (CPI) on its tail boom, has a Beidou antenna on top of its cabin and it can carry up to two Yu-11K ASW torpedoes under the stub wings.
