MONTREAL—Leaders
of the world’s largest pilot organizations will be holding a press
conference in Montreal
on Thursday, May 4 at 9:00 a.m. EDT to discuss ongoing
global efforts to counter an aggressive, corporate-led lobbying campaign
targeting regulators around the world, including the International Civil
Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Top leadership from the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’
Associations (IFALPA), the European Cockpit Association (ECA), and Air Line
Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) will provide a critical update on the
recently established global pilot coalition to prevent airlines and
manufacturers from pursuing plans to remove pilots from the flight deck—a
profit-driven scheme that poses a significant safety risk.
WHO:
Capt. Jack Netskar, IFALPA President
Capt. Otjan de Bruijn, ECA President
Capt. Jason Ambrosi, ALPA President
WHEN: Thursday,
May 4, 2023, 9:00 a.m. EDT
WHERE: DoubleTree by
Hilton Montreal
1255 Jeanne-Mance Street, Montreal, QC
Room - Symphonie 1, 5th floor
Despite developments in automation and improved technologies on the flight
deck, two pilots at the controls remains the most important safety feature
of an aircraft. Pilots eliminate system-failure scenarios and act as a
critical onboard backup for failed systems, bridge technology gaps, and
adapt in real-time to unanticipated situations and emergencies. Technology,
no matter how sophisticated, is not a replacement for two or more pilots on
the flight deck.
