Army Awards FLIR Systems $94M to Deliver Black Hornet 3 Finger-sized UAVs

The U.S. Army has placed an order for Black
Hornet 3 finger-sized drones from FLIR Systems for $94 million.
“FLIR Unmanned Aerial
Systems, Hvalstad, Norway, was awarded a $93,889,000 firm-fixed-price contract
for Black Hornet 3 unmanned aerial systems, spare parts and ancillary services.
Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an
estimated completion date of April 11, 2028,” the Pentagon said in an official
statement today.
The Black Hornet 3 weighs 32g and has
edurance of 25 minutes. It comes fitted with a EO camera and a TI camera. The
drone’s range is 2000m.
The Black Hornet 3 is the successor of
BH2 with improved parameters and enhanced construction.
The device can work both at daytime and
during the night. The daytime and thermal camera modules are
interchangeable.
Power supply: replaceable batteries. Time
needed for take-off: 30 to 120 seconds. The
platform can work with no GPS signal.
