Airbus expects to disclose later this month that it secured more
orders than rival Boeing over the course of last year.
While the airframer declines to comment on its figures ahead
of a 13 January formal briefing, a source familiar with the
situation indicates that it landed more orders at both gross and
net levels.
Airbus will have lagged its competitor in deliveries. Boeing
achieved 723 but Airbus, which had reached 554 by the end
of November, had been expecting to deliver some 626 jets
this year – including its first A350, to Qatar Airways.
Boeing took 1,550 gross and 1,432 net orders over 2014.
For Airbus to confirm a higher total it would have to have taken
over 400 net orders in December – a period typically marked
by intense activity at the European airframer.
It has not indicated whether it secured additional orders
for the Airbus A380. The type had accumulated only 14 net
orders at the end of November, following the firming of a
20-aircraft deal with lessor Amedeo but the cancellation of six
for Japan’s Skymark Airlines.
