Pilots suffer eye injuries after laser pointer shone into cockpit during
approach to Sunport
The Federal Aviation Administration says two
pilots were hospitalized with eye injuries Saturday when a person on the ground
shone a green laser into the plane's cockpit while it was approaching the
airport to land at the Albuquerque Sunport.
The FAA says the pilots
managed to land the plane, an Airbus A300-600 being used by FedEx, safely,
according to the Aviation Herald.
New Mexico State Police are handling
the investigation.
The FBI and FAA saw 27 laser strikes in 2013 in
Albuquerque, almost double the number from 2012.
