Aireon has powered and self-tested all 10 of its hosted payloads onboard 10 Iridium NEXT satellites, detecting 1090-MHz automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) surveillance transmissions from a large number of airliners, general aviation aircraft and helicopters “in oceanic and remote airspace that have never before had real-time surveillance,” states CEO Don Thoma in a March 2 program update.
