November 16, 2023Qatar's
F-15QA Advanced Eagle has made its air show demo debut in style this week.
Unburdened by any stores, without its conformal fuel tanks, and with the help
of its revamped fly-by-wire flight control system, as well as its pair of
powerful F110-GE-129 engines, the big jet has been wowing the crowds at the
Dubai Airshow in the United Arab Emirates. You can get our take on the recent F-15QA demo here.
Elsewhere, the U.S. Navy is looking to add four air-to-surface missiles onto
the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, one of which, the AGM-114 Hellfire, is
especially something of a surprise. Alongside the Hellfire, the other three
weapons the Navy says it plans to integrate on the F-35 comprise the AGM-158
Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM), a stealthy standoff cruise
missile; the AGM-158C Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM), a maritime strike
version of the JASSM; and the AGM-179 Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM), a
highly-flexible missile that was developed to succeed the Hellfire. You can read more about the Navy’s
plans here.
