BRA farewell flight from Bromma draws heart in sky over Stockholm

Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA) marked its final flight from Visby to Stockholm Bromma (TF427 op. ATR72-600 reg. SE-MKK) by flying a heart-shaped path over western Stockholm before landing.

The gesture, visible on radar and followed by thousands, symbolised a dignified farewell as the airline relocates to Stockholm Arlanda Airport next year under a 6 billion kronor agreement with SAS.

After this flight, the ATR72-600 operated a ferry flight TF9806 to relocate to Stockholm Arlanda. Bromma Airport will close to make way for the new Bromma Park City, with development expected to begin by 2040.

BRA’s commercial manager, Christian Sanden, reflected on the importance of the Visby-Bromma route and described the heart formation as a planned tribute to their time at the airport.

Parker Solar Probe broke records as it made its burning-hot fly-by

A Nasa spacecraft has made history by surviving the closest-ever approach to the Sun.

Scientists received a signal from the Parker Solar Probe just before midnight EST on Thursday (05:00 GMT on Friday) after it had been out of communication for several days during its burning-hot fly-by.

Nasa said the probe was "safe" and operating normally after it passed just 3.8 million miles (6.1 million km) from the solar surface.

The probe plunged into our star's outer atmosphere on Christmas Eve, enduring brutal temperatures and extreme radiation in a quest to better our understanding of how the Sun works.

Jeju Air CEO Kim Yi-bae has spoken about providing support 

for staff and bereaved families during a press conference 

following the deadly crash. But a key issue remains unanswered. 

Video footage shows the harrowing moment the Jeju Air plane 

belly landed on the runway, crashing into a wall before bursting 

into flames. Aviation experts have raised questions about 

the location of the wall, including air safety expert David 

Learmount who said that, had the "obstruction" not been there, 

the plane "would have come to rest with most - possibly all - 

those on board still alive".

Det er ganske trist  å se flyet komme inn på final uten hjul. Den får vel ikke ut ground spoilers uten hjul heller. Å skjelle på Boeing nok en gang er feil, er min oppfatning. 

Jeg leser heller ikke noe sted om at tårnet har kikket på flyet med kikkert og  deretter har sagt. Go around, no gear. Men, de kan ha sagt det.  Veggen eller vollen flyet traff lurer jeg veldig på. Er det tillatt med den i følge ICAOs retningslinjer gjengitt i Annex 14, Runway end safety areas? Ikke vet jeg. 

Jeg har tidligere lest i forbindelse med ulykker i Sør Korea at det er en uheldig "cockpit inclination" i flere selskaper. Det betyr at styrmannen sjelden tør kritisere eller kommentere kapteinens avgjørelser som kan føre galt av sted. Det momentet håper jeg også blir drøftet i havarirapporten.

Narrative:
Jeju Air Flight 7C 2216, a Boeing 737-800 registered HL8088, was involved in an accident at Muan International Airport (MWX/RKJB), South Korea. The aircraft made a gear-up landing on runway 19, slid past the end of the runway and collided with the ILS localizer antenna array and a wall. The aircraft disintegrated and burst into flames.
Of the 181 occupants, two flight attendants seated in the rear of the aircraft survived the accident.

Flight 2216 departed Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) at 19:28 UTC on a flight to MWX.
While on approach to MWX, at 23:57 UTC (08:57 LT), the Muan Tower controller issued a bird activity warning.
Two minutes later, the flight declared an emergency: "Mayday, mayday, mayday ... Bird strike, bird strike, going around."
A situation then developed wherein the flight made a 180 degree turn back for a landing on runway 19, the opposite direction of the initial approach and intended landing direction.
The aircraft then made a gear-up landing about on third down the runway. It then impacted the wall and antenna array.

MWX runway 19 has a Landing Distance Available (LDA) of 2800 m, albeit reduced to 2500 m since 30 October 2024 due to ongoing construction.
