Global Pilots on Flydubai Incident
MONTREAL
– The International Federation of Air Line Pilots Associations (IFALPA)
continues to monitor the developments related to the security incident
that occurred onboard the Tel Aviv-bound flydubai Flight FZ1073 on
September 30th, and which led to an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi
Arabia.
IFALPA notes that this event has rightfully been taken
extremely seriously by all the countries involved, with Saudi Arabia’s
National Transport Safety Center (NTSC) and the Ministry of Interior
launching an air safety and security investigation, whilst the United
Arab Emirates has categorized the incident as a terrorist attack, and
opened a separate criminal and counter-terrorism investigation.
At
this early stage, many critical questions remain unanswered, and IFALPA
stresses that investigations must be conducted professionally and
objectively, without speculation. All relevant facts must be gathered to
ensure an accurate analysis of events.
Effective recommendations
and mitigating measures designed to prevent the reoccurrence of such an
event can only result from a combined effort by investigators,
regulators, the aviation industry, and the community of pilots.
IFALPA
will remain in close contact with our Member Associations in the
Middle-East Region, and stand ready to provide relevant support,
guidance, and coordination efforts.
