While the future of the U.S. Army Joint Multirole (JMR) may be in doubt as budget pressure mounts, Eurocopter president and CEO Lutz Bertling is eager to participate.
“Definitely we will be part of JMR,” he says in Paris. Bertling, who has stressed the need for the company to continuously innovate, stresses that “we will have technical concepts which the U.S. Army and the Air Force will not be able to ignore.”One area the company is working on is speed. The X-3 hybrid hig-speed demonstrator is due to resume flight testing in February. And, Bertling says in a challenge to Sikorsky, it will aim at breaking the U.S. company’s X2 speed record.
JMR will be key to shaping the future helicopter landscape, he says, but likely not before 2030 or 2040 when a new wave of military modernization programs loom. Foto: Eurocopter
