Fatal Colorado Plane Crash
Blamed on Pilots' Actions
Federal investigators say a plane crash at a
Colorado mountain airport in 2014 was likely caused by the pilots' failure to
control the corporate-style jet after an unstabilized approach to
landing.
DENVER (AP) - Federal investigators say a plane crash at a Colorado mountain airport in 2014 was likely caused by the pilots' failure to control the corporate-style jet after an unstabilized approach to landing.
The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/2oBLO0r) the co-pilot, Sergio Carranza Brabata, was killed in the crash at Aspen-Pitkin County Airport. A pilot and passenger were injured. The three men were from Mexico and had been flying to Aspen from Tucson, Arizona, when the plane slammed into the runway.
The National Transportation Safety Board blamed the flight crew's actions for the crash in a report released last week.
The report says additional flight time for the pilots, who had little experience flying the twin-jet Bombardier CL 600, would have improved their decision-making while they attempted to land amid powerful wind gusts.
