Collins Aerospace Systems Offers Lumber Alternative For Jet Interiors

Collins Aerospace Systems has introduced a lumber alternative to complement wood veneers for business jets. The product, called PrecisionPlank, is an environmentally friendly lumber alternative and provides accurate color-matching to wood veneers for jets, it says. A patent is pending. Collins matches the boards to the veneers through a proprietary method of spacing the board’s wood grain to replicate the grain of the veneer. The board is free from knots, defects and color variance found in raw lumber, which allows Collins to provide business jet cabin shops with the right board at the right size to match an aircraft’s veneer. The product eliminates the time spent milling down raw lumber in hopes of finding an exact board match, which wastes lumber and man hours, officials say.
