Vulcan to the Sky-prosjektet samler fortsatt inn midler for å stille ut flyet

Dette flotte flyet er satt på bakken for all tid.. Jeg var så heldig å se XH558 i sitt rette element på Farnborough i 2010, og noen av oss spyttet noen pund i kassen for å holde flyet i luften, men dessverre, det ble for kostbart. Vulcan Monthly Newsletter gis fortsatt ut, og en gjeng holder flyet spick & spam for utstilling på det fremtidige National V-Force memorial ved tidligere RAF Finningley, nå Duncaster/Sheffield Airport. Den massive mønstringen i 2005 førte til at flyet kom i luften igjen i 2008, men det ble for kostbart å holde flyet gående.

Vulcan XH558 - the iconic delta-wing, four-engine jet - was returned to flight in 2007 in the world’s most complex restoration project. It was a feat of engineering and a story full of amazing support from the British public. Without that support and love for the aircraft, we would not have seen the Vulcan return to the sky for eight more years.

XH558’s story will inspire future generations to help maintain the UK’s historic role at the forefront of innovation in aviation. The development of the Avro Vulcan is a story of a twentieth century aircraft that was born through innovative thinking by British designers and engineers to solve a problem. That narrative will now be the springboard for today’s youth to make a difference by their career choices.

Gjennom de kontakter vi skaffet oss i 2010 og 2012, fikk vi skipperen på XM607, Martin Withers, som bombet flyplassen ved Port Stanley på Falklandsøyene, til å komme over til Norge for å foredra og promotere boka om den fantastiske Operation Black Buck som gjorde bombingen mulig. Et logistisk mareritt med Victors som "bensinstasjoner" langs ruten fra Ascension Island til Port Stanley og retur.
