A STRONG OFFENSE FOR THE WORLD OF DEFENSESix U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor stealth fighters arrived in England this week ahead of their deployment to Poland. This marks the first deployment of U.S. F-22 fighter jets to Europe since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began. The F-22s will support NATO’s Air Shielding mission, which aims to bolster allied defenses in Europe from the Baltic to Black Seas.
Elsewhere, the Air Force announced it intends to procure blended wing body, or BWB, aircraft – with a view toward building a full-size demonstrator aircraft and having it fly by 2026. The Pentagon is exploring BWB aircraft to potentially meet its future tanker and transport requirements.
In other aviation news, new imagery released this week provides the clearest look yet at the nose section of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy’s (PLAN) KJ-600 carrier-based airborne early-warning (AEW) aircraft. The snapshot surfaced around the same time as videos that show the prototypes, which could be as many as six in number, undergoing flight tests over the city of Xi'an, where the aircraft is built.
We are also continuing our rolling coverage of the conflict in Ukraine as it develops, which can be found daily at The War Zone. You can also check out some of our highlights from the week below.
