13th AWACS Jet Flies West to Boneyard, Last of 2023 Divestments

By Greg Hadley

The Air Force’s E-3 Sentry AWACS fleet is down to just 18 aircraft after the service completed its latest round of retirements at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., last month. The 13th and final AWACS airframe to be retired in fiscal 2023 left the base on Sept. 21, heading to the “Boneyard” at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. All told, a dozen AWACS aircraft went there from April to September, while one will remain at Tinker as a static display.
