easyJet to purchase
257 additional Airbus aircraft, planning its growth beyond 2028
By
British low-cost airline easyJet announced on Thursday that it has reached an
agreement with Airbus to expand its fleet by up to 257 additional aircraft,
planning for its growth beyond 2028 with larger and more fuel-efficient planes.
According to easyJet, the proposed purchase, subject
to approval by shareholders, would result in 157 aircraft (56 Airbus A320neo
and 101 Airbus A321neo models) and the option to another 100 aircraft, most of
which are A321neo models scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2034.
“This will enable easyJet’s fleet
modernisation and growth to continue beyond 2028, providing significant
benefits, including cost savings and improvements in sustainability,”
stated Chief Executive Johan Lundgren in a press release.
The group also indicated its intention to convert an
order for 35 A320neo aircraft into the larger A321neo planes.
