The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence has confirmed plans to procure UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, marking a shift away from the previously considered AW149 platform. The decision comes as part of a wider review of the UK’s rotary-wing modernization strategy, focusing on long-term availability, interoperability, and sustainment.
Black Hawk helicopters are widely used by allied nations and offer a proven design with an extensive global support network. UK officials noted that commonality with partners, mature logistics, and predictable lifecycle costs played a key role in the selection. The helicopters are expected to support a range of roles, including troop transport, logistics, and training.
Moving from AW149 to Black Hawk prioritizes interoperability and long-term support, reinforcing the UK’s focus on coalition readiness and cost-effective fleet management.
