Turbulens

 

Vi leser stadig om alvorlige hendelser relatert til turbulens. Mange blir skadd, oftest kabinbetjeningen. Dopplerradar kan kanskje hjelpe, men det vet jeg lite om, dessverre. Passasjerene får beskjed om alltid å ha setebeltet på under flygingen, men når lyset er av, er det vanlig å ta ned ting fra hattehyllen eller gå på toilettet. Kabinbetjeningen er veldig utsatt. Samtidig leser jeg også at antallet hendelser øker fordi været endrer seg, slik det er prediket av FN`s klimapanel for mange år siden. (Red.)


In the ITCZ, thunderstorms can develop rapidly and punch through the tropopause frequently reaching FL500

On 2 March 2023, an aircraft at FL390 encountered en route turbulence unanticipated by the two first officers occupying the pilot seats whilst the captain was in the crew rest area. All three pilots had only recently qualified on type. The risk of significant convective turbulence was not recognized in advance, which led to the seat belt signs being off until just prior to turbulence onset. The turbulence resulted in 6 severe and 16 minor injuries, all requiring hospital treatment. Multiple safety actions were implemented by the aircraft operator to reduce the risk of recurrence.
